About

The Artist

My name is Lou and I'm an independent sculptor based in the New Forest and working across Dorset, Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex. I happily started sculpting later in life having spent twenty years as a Picture Framer, which I still love, and enjoy welcoming guests to my framing studio in Sussex.

Being passionate about nature, I take my inspiration from the stunning natural world around us. My work is full of intricate detail and precise forms, replicating the myriad textures, shapes and contours of our wonderful planet’s flora and fauna.

I produce all editions in limited series - nothing is mass produced. I take great delight in casting each sculpture myself, every one being hand-finished to create a unique piece. It's always exciting and intriguing to see how each piece turns out as no two are ever exactly the same.

I love to blend-in materials also found in nature, giving each sculpture an organic colouration. I cast in jesmonite, an environmentally-friendly material which can also be made weather-proof (perfect for my garden sculpture range). It's important for me to work with a material that is animal and children-friendly and virtually fume-free, so perfect all round! Casting usually also involves real bronze, silver, iron, slate and copper powders, in addition to gold and silver leaf, and over time some sculptures get weathered by their environment - a process which enriches and changes the intensity of their appearance as they age, a bit like us!

The environment

As we are all aware these days, I'm more and more mindful of trying to help keep our lovely planet free of as much land-fill waste as possible. All the packaging which comes with your sculpture can be recycled.

Charity support

I support the Alzheimer’s Society and donate from every sale of my work to this worthy cause. The Society is the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity for people living with dementia, their families and carers.
